What Is a Sow Ear?

A sow is a mature female pig, and her ears are naturally larger and thicker than those from younger pigs, giving a noticeably bigger chew. Ours are Grade A, meaning each one is selected for size, texture and condition before being slowly dehydrated to lock in the flavour. What's the difference between a sow ear and a pig's ear?
A sow is a mature female pig, so her ears are larger and thicker than those of a younger pig. That makes sow ears a longer, more durable chew: ideal for large breeds, powerful chewers, or any dog that finishes a regular pig's ear too quickly. Both are 100% pork with no additives.
Are sow ears suitable for my dog?
Sow ears are a natural, single-ingredient treat suitable for most adult dogs when given in moderation as part of a balanced diet. Always supervise your dog and feed on a stain-resistant surface, as sow ears can be greasy. Not recommended for puppies under four months old.
Why do sow ears leave grease marks?
Sow ears are naturally high in fat (around 23%), which is part of what makes them so tasty. That fat can mark carpets and soft furnishings, so feed on a hard floor, a chew mat or outside, and give your dog's face and paws a wipe afterwards.
How often should I give my dog a sow ear?
Because of their higher fat content, sow ears are best as an occasional treat rather than a daily one. Once or twice a week is a sensible guide for most dogs. Reduce main meals slightly on treat days if needed.
What does Grade A mean?
Grade A is the quality standard of the ear. Each one is selected for size, shape, texture and condition, so you get a consistently large, well-prepared chew rather than a mixed bag.

Feeding Guidance

Always supervise your dog when giving any chew treat. Do not leave your dog unattended while chewing.

Choose a chew suited to your dog's size and chewing strength.

💡 Top tip: once the chew has been nibbled down to a piece small enough to swallow whole, take it away and give a fresh one another time. Keen chewers can try to gulp the last bit, so to avoid any potential problems, if in doubt, swap it out.

If your dog tries to gulp large pieces, take the chew away.

Best fed on a hard floor, mat or other stain-resistant surface, as natural chews can be a little greasy.

Give as part of a balanced diet and make sure fresh water is always available.

Not recommended for puppies under four months or dogs with dental sensitivities.
